Download the Print Scout

To download the Print Scout:

  1. Login to the HP Insights website (if not already logged in).
  2. Depending on your license, you can download the Print Scout from the following screens on the web portal
    • Secure Print license: In the Secure > Setup Guide tab, select Download Print Scout (found under Install on-premises components).
    • Secure Print Direct license: In the Direct > Setup Guide tab, select Download Print Scout (found under Install on-premises components).

    Note: You can also download the Print Scout installation package from the Discover > Print Scout screen.

  3. Enter the Site encryption key.
  4. Select the operating system and click the Download button to download the Print Scout installation package.

If you have HP Secure Print or HP Secure Print license, you will have the option to select the type of Print Scout you can download. Choose from the following options:

  • Windows
  • Mac
  • Linux (for sites with Secure Print license, OpenID configuration, and Cloud Storage enabled)

Note: To download the Linux Print Scout, the authentication provider must be OpenID and Cloud Storage must be enabled before the Linux Print Scout is available to download. Cloud storage is required because the print job is only stored in the cloud, not the workstation. To enable cloud storage, navigate to the Secure > Settings > Secure Print Settings > Document Handling section of the web console.

Note: If you leave the Setup Guide without downloading the Print Scout, the next time you start the Setup Guide, you will be prompted to enter the site encryption key before you can download the Print Scout. Copy the Site Encryption Key that you saved earlier. We recommend copy and paste to ensure accuracy. If you have forgotten or lost your key, contact your vendor.

The Windows Print Scout download package includes the following files/folders:

  • DotNetFx- The folder contains the Microsoft .NET 4.6.1 installer. If not present, .NET 4.6.1 will be automatically installed.
  • CustomerSecret.dat - Contains the encrypted AES encryption keys.
  • PrintScoutInstaller.exe - Installs the Print Scout.
  • Setup.ini - Contains Print Scout configuration files.

The Mac Print Scout download package includes the following files:

  • CustomerSecret.dat - Contains the encrypted AES keys.
  • MacPrintScoutInstaller.pkg - Installs the Print Scout.
  • Setup.ini - Contains Print Scout configuration files.

The Linux Print Scout download package includes the following files:

  • CustomerSecret.dat - Contains the encrypted AES keys.
  • install.sh - Installs the Print Scout.
  • Setup.ini - Contains Print Scout configuration files.

Note: If you have downloaded, but not yet installed the Print Scout, you can download it again by entering the site encryption key you've previously saved. (We recommend copy and paste to ensure accuracy). If you have forgotten or lost your key, contact your vendor.

Note: You can also download the Print Scout from the Discover > Print Scout screen.
