Installing the Print Scout on Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI)
The Print Scout component of Secure Print has been updated so it can be used with some Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) systems such as Citrix® XenDesktop or Microsoft® Terminal Services. This allows organizations with VDI environments to take advantage of Secure Print.
In a VDI environment, the Print Scout can be installed on a base image instead of a standard desktop. A local print queue is added to the base image. The base image is then ‘cloned’ to create multiple virtual desktops. Employees print to the local queue just as they would in non-VDI environments.
Both persistent and non-persistent VDIs are supported. For organizations using non-persistent VDI, IT administrators need to set up user roaming profile or user folder re-directions, so employees do not need to re-authenticate every time they start a new session.
Installing the Print Scout
When installing the Print Scout on a VDI base image or template, you must include a special command-line parameter to ensure proper configuration. The installation process is similar to installing on a standard workstation, with one key difference, you need to specify the BASE_IMAGE=yes
parameter.
1. Run the following at a command prompt.
msiexec /i <PrintScoutInstaller>.msi BASE_IMAGE=yes
2. Click Next to start the installation and follow the onscreen instructions.
