Mobile Submission
With Mobile Submission, print users can submit documents using a mobile device (via the HP Secure Print mobile app). Users can download the app from the App Store (iOS) Google Play Store (Android) .
Note: You will need a mobile device running either Apple iOS 13.0 or later, or Android OS 8.1 or later. If you are running versions earlier than Android 8.1, you will not be able to upgrade to the newer version of the app or install the app from app store.
Enabling Mobile Submission
Mobile Submission is disabled by default. To allow users to submit documents via their mobile device, you'll need to:
1. Navigate to the Secure > Settings > Secure Print Settings screen of the web portal.
2. Under Document Handling, enable Mobile Submission.
When Mobile Submission is enabled:
-
A cloud print queue (IPP queue) is created. This queue shows up in the mobile app as a printer, with a name like “Secure Printer".
-
Users submit from mobile via:
-
iOS-AirPrint - AirPrint renders the document and gathers print settings (color, duplex, copies). The job is sent via secure IPP to HP Insights, not a physical printer. The HP Insights stores the document in encrypted storage and indexes the job so it appears in your Secure Print queue.
-
Android Print Framework - Android Print renders the content and collects print settings. HP Insights handles storage and indexing the same way as iOS.
-
-
Jobs go into the user’s Secure Print queue, like any other secure job. At the printer, users authenticate as normal and see these mobile jobs in the same release list as their Print Scout and Universal Print jobs.
Note: Once the Mobile Submission function is enabled, you will not be able to turn it off yourself. To disable this function, you will need to reach out to our Support team for assistance.
Cloud Storage Behavior with Mobile Submission
When Mobile Submission is enabled, all mobile jobs are always stored in the cloud, with server‑side encryption, regardless of the Cloud Storage setting. The Cloud Storage setting only changes how jobs move from cloud to the printer at release time.
-
Cloud Storage Enabled - Documents from mobile devices will always be available for release. At release time, the secured printer pulls the job directly from the cloud.
-
Cloud Storage Disabled - Documents from mobile devices will be released through an online Print Scout. If no Print Scouts are online, documents cannot be released. At release time, an online Print Scout (on a Windows/Mac workstation) pulls the job from the cloud and delivers it to the printer.
You can set the Cloud Storage setting in the Secure > Settings > Document Handling section of the web console.
Mobile Deployment: Allow Manual Profile Installation (iOS Only)
Use the Allow Manual Profile Installation setting in the Secure > Settings > Document Handling section which determines whether users can manually install configuration profiles on iOS devices outside of automated deployment workflows.
Refer to the Mobile Deployment setting in the Secure Release Settings for more information.
