Secure Print Direct FAQs

Below are common scenarios IT administrators may encounter when configuring Secure Print Direct.

A print queue does not appear in the list of available printers in the HP Secure Print desktop app.

If a print queue doesn’t appear in the printer list, check the following:

  • Queue Status: Make sure the status is not set to Disabled. Only queues with Manual-install or Auto-install status will appear.

  • Permission Groups: Verify if the user belongs to a group with printer restrictions. Review the permission groups assigned to the printer and confirm the user’s group membership.

Why weren’t my finishing option updates applied after restarting the service or the next day?

Verify if the print queue is set to Manual-install. Queues with Manual-install do not receive updates from the web console after being installed on user workstations.

Why isn’t my Auto-install print queue installing automatically on user workstations?

Confirm that workstation location has been configured. For automatic installation, you must define network details for the location, including:

  • Wi-Fi SSID

  • Gateway

  • IP Subnet Range
