Secure Print Direct FAQs

The following shows some common scenarios that an IT admin might encounter when configuring Secure Print Direct.

A print queue does not appear in the list of available printers in the HP Secure Print desktop app.

  • For a print queue to appear on the Printers list on the HP Secure Print desktop app, make sure that the status for the print queue is not set to Disabled. A print queue only appears when the Status is set to either Manual-install or Auto-Install.
  • Check if the user belongs to a group with printer restrictions. To do this check the Permission Groups assigned to the printer and check whether the user belongs to any of the groups specified.

I updated the finishing options for a print queue in the HP Insights web console but the changes were not applied to the workstation on service restart or the next day.

Check if your print queue is set to Manual-install. If a print queue is set to Manual-install, it will not get any updates from the HP Insights web console after it has been installed on user workstations.

I have an Auto-install print queue but it’s not automatically installing on user workstations.

Check if workstation location has been configured. For queues to be automatically installed on user workstations, you will need to configure network information (Wifi SSID, Gateway, IP Subnet Range) for a given location.
